Recently, Wellfield staff were invited, as members of the local chapter of Indiana Native Plant Society, to rescue some native woodland plants threatened by dirt bike traffic through a local property.

Wellfield displays and conserves native genetic material throughout our grounds in places like the Woodland Conservation Garden, Children’s Garden, and on our shorelines.

In an effort to conserve plant material, Wellfield staff occasionally remove and transplant plant species which are threatened in some way from regional sites to the Gardens. It is an opportunity to preserve their beauty and show reasons to incorporate them into the landscape.

Thanks to Jan from Naturally Native Nursery for assisting in the rescue process, and thanks to the many Wellfield volunteers who planted the many transplants in their digs.
