Press Release: WELLFIELD BOTANIC GARDENS ANNOUNCES 2026 BONSAI SHOW

This Two-Day Experience Features a Bonsai Show, Many Workshops, and Renowned Bonsai Artists from the Country. 


ELKHART, Ind. – Wellfield Botanic Gardens, recognized as America’s #1 Botanic Garden, will host the return of the Michiana Bonsai Show on Saturday, September 19th and Sunday, September 20th. The Michiana Bonsai Show will feature the artistry of bonsai cultivation through exhibits, classes, workshops, and vendor offerings. 


The show will feature the work of nationally recognized bonsai artists including Mark Fields, Bill Valavanis, and Jennifer Price. Fields is a noted bonsai artist and past president of the American Bonsai Society, whose nursery is based in Greenwood, Indiana. Valavanis is a renowned bonsai artist, teacher, scholar, author, and proprietor of the International Bonsai Arboretum. Price is a Chicago-based bonsai artist who has completed apprenticeships with multiple renowned bonsai masters. 


Exhibitors will compete across several judged categories, including Best in Show, Excellence in Bonsai, and Best of Class honors for Deciduous, Tropicals, Broadleaf Evergreens, Needle Evergreens, and Shohin Bonsai. 


Throughout the weekend, vendors selling merchandise and artists giving live demonstrations will be located under the Woodland Pavilion, while hands-on workshops will take place primarily in the Visitors Cottage. Judged exhibitor displays will be housed in the Event Rooms inside the Visitors Center. 


The Bonsai Show is included with regular Wellfield admission. Admission is free for Wellfield members, $10 for public adults, $5 for public children ages 3-12, and free for children ages 2 and under. The Gardens are open both days from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., with last admission thirty minutes before close.
