About the Role
The Horticulturist is responsible for horticultural maintenance of gardens and event spaces, including playing a key role in seasonal event preparation and implementation. This important team player will routinely oversee volunteers and require attention to detail.
Duties and Responsibilities
Execute seasonal and annual maintenance plans for assigned garden areas.
Collaborate with supervisor on garden renovations and improvements.
Perform routine horticultural tasks including planting, weeding, watering, mulching, pruning, mowing, and fertilizing.
Inspect, program, maintain, and repair irrigation systems.
Assist with event setup, maintenance, and breakdown.
Support Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs, including organic pest control methods.
Install and maintain seasonal displays and themed exhibits.
Safely operate horticultural equipment (mowers, trimmers, blowers, skid-steer, etc.).
Perform light maintenance tasks, including minor structural repairs and small engine maintenance.
Provide direction and support to volunteers to ensure quality work and a positive experience.
Work occasional evenings and rotating weekends as needed.
Serve as a member of the snow operations team.
Requirements
Associate’s degree in horticulture or related field, or equivalent experience.
Minimum of 2 years of hands-on horticultural experience.
Experience with safe operation of landscaping tools and equipment.
Knowledge of plant care, maintenance practices, and basic IPM principles.
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
